Age 91, died Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Genesys Regional Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton, Father Gary L. McInnis officiating. Cremation will take place following the Mass. Those desiring may make contributions to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Burton Senior Center or charity of one's choice. Visitation 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Appel will be at the church from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the Mass. Bob was born on June 3, 1920. He served his country in the U.S. Navy as Lt JG. He married Eleanor Mello on May 15, 1943 at St. Michael's in Flint. Bob was a graduate of General Motors Institute. He was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Mr. Appel retired from Welder Maintenance at Fisher Body, Grand Blanc, with over 43 years of service. He was a Life Master in bridge and enjoyed square dancing with his wife, Eleanor, for many years after he retired. He was active in Young at Heart at Holy Redeemer. Surviving are wife of 68 years, Eleanor; daughter, Barbara Appel of Flint; sons, Dennis (Darla) Appel of Jackson and Joseph (Cheryl) Appel of Flint Township; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Wilber of Morley; sisters-in-law, Margaret and Shirley Appel of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cathleen Burden. Your condolences may be shared with the family at
