Gerald Louis "Jerry" Cattaneo, age 72, retired Chief of Police of Fenton, passed away peacefully surrounded by the ones he laughed with, lived for, and loved on May 16, 2013. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 AM Monday, May 20, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St., Fenton with Fr. Roy Horning celebrant. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton, 5 - 9 PM Saturday; 1 - 9 PM Sunday; and at the church 10 - 11 AM Monday. A Vigil Service will be held 7:30 PM Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to St. John G.I.F.T Campaign. Jerry was born on June 27, 1940 in Detroit to the late Peter and Mary Cattaneo. He married the love of his life, the late Jeannette (Narkiewicz) on November 11, 1961. He became a police officer in the City of Detroit in the 1960's and retired as Lieutenant January 1,1987. In 1987, Jerry became the Chief of Police in Fenton where he spent the most rewarding years of his career until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, XX Club and the Knights of Columbus. Jerry was
an avid hunter and fisherman with a real love for the outdoors. He was also an award winning woodcarver, sharing his works with many family and friends. Jerry was especially proud of his grandchildren and loved to support them in their sports and activities. He was a loving, generous man with a thirst for life who always had a smile for everyone. Jerry is survived by his children: David (Alana) Cattaneo of Macomb Twp., Jeffrey (Dustin) of Madison Heights, and Tracy (Jeff) Bundy of Fenton; grandchildren, Nicholas, Spencer, Avery and Parker; brother, Reynolds; sister-in-law, Nancy (Dan) Headapohl; and many special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, wife Jeannette, grandson Andrew, brother Chuck and sister Caroline. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Gentiva Hospice of Flint. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family.
