Richard (Dick) Goode, Sr.
Melbourne, FL
Dick Goode, 71, of Melbourne FL passed away peacefully at the William Childs Hospice House on November 1, 2013 finally free of the cancer he fought for 21 years. Dick was born in Melbourne, FL on February 16, 1942 to Harry and Katherine Goode. Dick was a descendant of
the first family to settle in Melbourne. He enjoyed an ideal childhood exploring Melbourne and fishing in the local rivers, the Sebastian lnlet and the ocean.
Dick was a graduate of Melbourne High School Class of 1960, Brevard Jr. College and attended the University of Florida.
He was respected as the owner of Harry Goode's Outdoor Shop for 50 years before retiring in 2012 and was well known for his knowledge of fixing reels as well as for his gentle and kind nature with customers, friends and family.
Dick enjoyed traveling, NASCAR races, bowling, golf and watching college football games. He was an avid Florida Gator fan.
He is predeceased in death by his father Harry C. Goode, Sr. and mother Katherine Goode. He is survived by his beloved wife Penny (Walker) Goode of 50 years, son Richard Goode, Jr. (Paige), grandson Mac and granddaughter Maddie, brother Harry C. Goode Jr. (Monica), sister Kathy Guilday (Tom) nieces, nephews, cousins and the family cat Buddy.
Dick will be greatly missed and never forgotten. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, November 8th at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church on New Haven Avenue in Melbourne. Arrangements are made by Brownlie & Maxwell Funeral Home.

Dickie will always be missed for his heart and his accomplishments and the love he shared with us all.

To Penny and the Goode Family:
Dick's kindness and sincere friendship to so many of us was an inspiration that touched all of us and made this a better community. We will miss him greatly but we all will have the legacy he left us. So sorry I cannot attend Friday's service. I am in Raleigh visiting my brother, a trip I had planned for weeks. Dear Penny,
You and Dick have fought the long hard battle side by side with courage and love. None of us will ever forget Dick and his wonderful nature. We will not be able to attend the service as we are still in NC for the summer, but know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and all the family.

Dick was the most amazing and kind man that we have ever known. He always had a gentle touch and never a bad word to say. We are blessed and honored to have been part of his life and to have both of you as our neighbors. I know heaven is a "Happier" place; because they just took one of our very best!
