Captain Larry Eugene Heisler

Larry Heisler, 57, relinquished his battle with cancer and entered eternity with the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, July 14, 2013 in Merritt Island, FL. Born in Coaldale, PA on June 1, 1956, he was the son of John and Jeanette Heisler, Tamaqua, PA.

He was a 1974 graduate of Tamaqua Area High School. After graduation, he worked at Pennsylvania Bank, Tamaqua. On September 10, 1977, he married Christine Deihl from Mifflinburg, PA and remained married to her for 36 years.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1977-1997. Upon completion of officers training school, he retired as a Captain. Larry earned a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio State University and a masters degree from Embry-Riddle, FL.

Larry had a great passion and love for music. He was a very gifted musician playing bass guitar. He formerly played for local gospel groups in PA and used his talent in orchestra at First Baptist Church, Merritt Island. He also enjoyed singing bass. He was a deacon at First Baptist and volunteered with the lighting team for special events and regular services. He belonged to an aero club in Florida, where he achieved an instrument rating, multi-engine rating and pilots license. The last several years, he loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed watching and supporting his daughter swim for high school and local club meets.

Larry was most recently employed for 10 years, 11 months at the Naval Ordinance Test Unit, U.S. Navy, Cape Canaveral, Florida, where he was a Senior Staff Engineer.

Our honorable, beloved Larry is survived by his wife, Christine; daughter, Candy; father-in-law, David Deihl, Mifflinburg, PA; parents, John and Jeanette Heisler, Tamaqua, PA; brother and sister-in-law, John and Deena Heisler, New Ringgold, PA; and sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jeffrey Dewire, Bethlehem, PA. He is also survived by four nephews and three nieces.
