Coyte Eugene Houston, age 84, of Claremont, NC went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Born April 13, 1929 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Glenn Olin and Laura Jane Travis Houston.

Coyte was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was the retired owner of Midway Mining and Sand and Riata Coach. He was a US Army veteran, a member of Masonic Lodge #113, 32 degree Scottish Rite and founding member of Azan Shrine Temple in Melbourne, FL.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ray and James Houston.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Elizabeth Bowers Houston; daughter, Patti Corley and husband Kevin of Catawba; 2 sons, Tom Houston and wife Sherry of Rockledge, FL and Chuckie Houston and wife Karen of Catawba; 4 grandsons, Colt Corley, Jake Houston, Michael and Dustin Houston; great grandson, Hank Houston; step granddaughter, Taylor Yancey; 5 sisters, Ruth Kennedy, Lois Ballard, Evelyn Shoemaker, Martha Goforth and Shelby Drum; 2 brothers: Ben and Wayne Houston.

The graveside funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge, FL with a Masonic committal service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Shriners Children's Hospital, International Headquarters, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
