Elizabeth "Betty" Sage

Elizabeth (Betty) Sage, born on February 9, 1928 in Norwich, CT, died September 27, 2012.

Betty graduated from Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing in 1949. She was in the Army Nurse Corps from February 1951 to December 1953 during the Korean Conflict. She was stationed in Germany and worked at the 320th General Hospital in Landstuhl, Germany for two years. She also served at the Burn Center at Brooks Army Hospital in San Antonio, TX for one year. She then graduated from the Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 1955 with a BS in nursing.

Betty taught nursing at North Carolina Baptist Hopsital, Winston-Salem, NC. She was employed for 19 years at the Veteran Administration Medical Centers in Salisbury, NC and Chillicothe, Ohio as a staff nurse, instructor, Associate Chief of Nursing Education, and Supervisor of Admissions, Outpatient and Emergency Room. Later she worked in Public Health and Visiting Nurse Services for several years. She was a volunteer at the Brevard Association for the Blind where she explained the workings of Braille to the visually impaired.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Helen Sage; brothers, Richard (Jane) Sage, Edward (Marion) Sage; and sister, Shirley (Robert) Hilton.

She is survived by her nephews, Robert Hilton (Jan), Larry, Carl, Ricky and Stephen Sage; her nieces, Susan (Jerry) Latulippe, Kristen (Brad) Rightler, Trina Sage; and several grand nieces and grand nephews, as well as her beloved friends, Joe and Tecky Vecchio.

Family and friends will meet at Holy Name of Jesus Church on Friday, October 12 for a mass to begin at 1 p.m. and a reception after the service. Inurnment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Betty's name to the Holy Name of Jesus School, 3050 Hwy A1A, Indialantic, FL 32903, or to the Brevard Assoc. of the Blind, 674 S. Patrick Drive, Satellite Beach, FL 32937.
