Herbert A. Bernard, U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel (Ret) passed away October 15th at age 95, after "Fighting His Final Battle".

Born April 18, 1918 in Attleboro, MA he was the youngest of six children. After graduating from High School, he moved to Hartford CT and worked as Head Bookkeeper for a large lumber company.

In 1942 he enlisted in the Aviation Cadet Program. After graduating from Officers Candidate School, Herbert served his country bravely as a Navigator and Bombardier on B-17s flying over Germany in WWII. He also flew on B-29s during the Korean Conflict and served as an Intelligence Officer during the Viet Nam War.

He was a long time member of The Community Chapel of Melbourne Beach and a proud member of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America).

Herb is survived by Celesta, his beloved wife of 43 years as well as his daughters; Susan Ricker, Barbara West (Ron) and Robyn Raustad. Also, grandchildren; John Ricker (Rebecca), Daniel Ricker (Agi) and Shannon Raustad as well as great grandsons Cullen and Cody Ricker.

Celesta and Herb enjoyed traveling and being with family - and - of course - Herb enjoyed his golf.

He was a warm and caring family man and will be missed by them and everyone who knew him.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 2:30 - 3:30pm at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial (5950 South US Highway 1, Rockledge, Florida 32955), followed by the funeral service at 3:30pm. An Entombment with full Military Honors will follow the funeral service, at Florida Memorial Gardens.
