James Monroe Garnett III passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2014 with his family by his side. Jim was born in Vicksburg, MS on November 9, 1941 to the late James and Mellgwin Coody Garnett.

Following two years in the Navy, he earned an Electrical Engineering degree from Mississippi State University. He first was employed by Bell Telephone Laboratories in Holmdel, NJ, where he met his wife, then transferred to Naperville, IL. After completing a Ph.D. at Northwestern University, he continued his career in communication software at MITRE Corporation in Bedford, MA and Seattle, WA where he transferred to The Boeing Company working on the design of the cockpit software for the AWACS airplane. Jim retired from Harris Corporation after 24 years on many projects including the VSCS redesign of the Air Traffic Control software.

Jim was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed spending time with his sons as a Little League coach, soccer referee, and many years of involvement with the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey; his sons Jim and wife Donna, Tom and wife Sherry, and Rick and wife Denise; and his loving grandchildren Elise, Zoe, Samuel, Jessica, and Abby.

Services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 3:30 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Satellite Beach.
