John Kenefick, a man who loved coaching his kids' soccer games, treasure diving, hard work, ice hockey, the Florida Keys, playing the guitar - and most of all - his family, passed away on April 7, 2013.
John and his wife, Theresa, arrived in Melbourne, Florida in 1968 from Ohio, where John earned a master's degree in geodetic science from The Ohio State University. In 1973, he started John F. Kenefick Photogrammetric Consultant, Inc. (JFK). His favorite projects included the mapping of Mt. Rushmore in 1990, featured in Life Magazine, and the Walt Disney World castle, just in time for Disney's 25th anniversary. In 2008, John retired from JFK. He had a love for the ocean and a passion for treasure diving. He spent countless summer days searching for treasure from the 1715 Spanish Plate Fleet, near Sebastian Inlet, and the 1659 shipwreck, San Miguel Archangel, off Jupiter Inlet.
He and his wife, Terry, were incredibly devoted parents. John coached the soccer teams of his children, Ann and Christian, from day one when soccer first came to Brevard County in 1977. He rarely missed a practice.
John leaves behind his wife, Terry; daughter, Ann (Chris Dolin) and their sons, Will and Ethan; son, Christian (Joy Kenefick), and their daughters, Ana and Sara. He is also survived by his brother, George Kenefick.
Please join his family in a memorial service on Tuesday, April 16, at 10:30 am at the Brownlie-Maxwell Funeral Home, located at 1010 Palmetto Avenue, Melbourne, FL. A reception will be held shortly thereafter at 12:00 pm at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club, located at 100 Datura Dr. in Indian Harbour Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Candlelighters of Brevard County (candlelightersofbrevard.org).

Uncle John, I have been thinking about you today. You have been a huge inspiration to me and someday I hope to be successful like you were. I know you said hard work and an education are very important and I am taking your advice on that. I love you!

I met John in 1982 or thereabouts when I hired him as a consultant for LTV Missiles and Electronics at Dallas, TX. He taught us Digital Photogrammetry and installed his software. This led eventually to the building of a sophisticated Mission Rehearsal System. John was a brilliant man. Even though it was a long time ago, I remember as a 30 year old, I was in awe of him. My sympathies to the family.
Respectfully,

Dear Terry, Ann & Christian,
I am saddened for you all and for all who knew John - YES, he will be missed dearly, and yes, he did touch many of our lives. For me - it was as family friends in my youth, and later, when I had the privilege of working with John on a few Close Range Photogrammetry projects in the 70s.... I will always remember his laugh, even in the seriousness of his work. He really enjoyed life, and could make others laugh with him! We'll still hear your laugh from heaven, John. With Love and Prayers, Michelle Jennings
