Lora Berlin Caterine(1924 - 2012)

Lora Berlin Caterine passed on Friday, October 5, 2012, at the age of 88. Lora was born in New York, New York, the daughter of Carl G. and Lora Berlin (nee Van Poucke) on August 24, 1924.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Charles (Bud), and her husband of 53 years, Dennis Caterine. She is survived by her four children, Charles S. Caterine, Alba Caterine Muhlfeld, Elizabeth Caterine Falvella and Linda Caterine Nylen; and four grandchildren, George Falvella, Michael Falvella, Emilie Muhlfeld and Liza Muhlfeld.

Lora met her husband, Dennis, while skating at Rockefeller Center in New York City where she worked as a bookkeeper at the Princeton Club. After they married, the couple spent some time in Peru before moving back to New York. Dennis was an intrepid entrepreneur who built a successful aviation business, first in New York and then relocated to Rockledge.

Lora and Dennis raised their family in Greenwich, CT where they were the center of the extended Caterine family, including Dennis' sisters, Alba, Maria and Mona and their families. The Caterine home was a place where great food, a drink and a hearty welcome were available to any guest. No one was a stranger there.

With all but their youngest grown, Lora and Dennis relocated to Brevard County in 1980, first in Cocoa Beach and then later in south Merritt Island. Their home remained the center of the family, especially during the holidays.

Lora was a member of the Cocoa Beach Community Church where her beautiful voice was featured in the choir. Her sharp mind and quick wit showed in her conversations with friends and family. An avid knitter, her baby blankets and sweaters were a cherished gift. She devoured books and crossword puzzles with equal unanimity.

A service celebrating Lora's life was held at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home, Viera, FL, at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 12, 2012.
