Nick Rahal

Nick Rahal, 82, founder of Rahal Real Estate and longtime Rockledge resident, died at 3:35 am, on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at The Hospice House in Rockledge, Florida. Born March 4, 1931 in Rhodell, West Virginia, he was the second child of five to Nageep and Mary Rahal.

His parents, Arab immigrants, instilled in Nick a love of America, a strong work ethic, honesty, humility, loyalty and family, which were principles that would guide him throughout his life. He attended public school in Beckley, West Virginia where, as a senior, he won individual state championships in both track and wrestling and was a High School All American member of the 1948 West Virginia State Championship Football team.

He attended Syracuse University on an athletic scholarship where he played football for Hall of Fame Head Coach Ben Schwartzwalder. He was a member of the 1953 Syracuse Team that played in the Orange Bowl against Alabama. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, he joined the Air force and earned the rank of Captain while continuing to play football for the military at his station in Japan.

He left the military to pursue a Master's Degree in education at Marshall University, where he met his wife Virginia. In 1964, he moved to Florida and accepted a position at Brevard Community College as a Business Administration Professor. During his tenure at BCC he co-founded one of the first Teachers Unions in the State of Florida and by the end of his thirty years as an educator, he had inspired countless students to pursue careers in real estate.

On his fiftieth birthday, he and Virginia opened Rahal Real Estate in their hometown of Rockledge, where he continued to work until his death.

Nick was a lifelong advocate for working class families and enriched the lives of all he came in contact with. He will forever be remembered in the hearts of family and friends.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Nageep and Mary Rahal. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia; sons, Nick and Vince; daughter-in-law, Lisbeth; grandchildren, Hannah, Jonathan, Alexander, Benjamin, Sophia, Vincent and Sydney; brothers, Fred Rahal and Kamal Rahal; and sisters, Nancy Stone and Janette Crutchfield.

Visitation with family will begin at 10:00 am with services at 11:00 am on Friday, August 16, 2013 at Faith Viera Lutheran located at 5550 Faith Drive in Rockledge.
