Raleigh Thomas Hornsby

Raleigh Thomas "Tom" Hornsby, 65, of Port St. John, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, to Raleigh Vay and Elizabeth Margaret Hornsby on Jan. 11, 1948. On Dec. 26, 1969, he married Mary Lee Lowie-Hornsby. They had four children and 12 grandchildren.
Tom is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Margaret Hornsby; wife Mary Hornsby; daughters Elizabeth Laura Campbell, Diane Yvonne Sangalang and Cassiopia Star Hornsby; son Raleigh Thomas "Trey" Hornsby III, and grandchildren Chancellor and Chynna Carmichael, Elijah, Ethan, Emmery and Evelyn Sangalang, Chastity, Courtland and Bryan Cooper Campbell, Ezekiel Tierney, Lana Hornsby, and Phoenix Alexander.
Tom was a 6-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard
and achieved the rank of Engineman 3rd Class aboard the USCGC White Sumac.
He spent a great deal of his life dedicated to education. He received several degrees including a bachelor's degree from Florida International University and master's degree from UCF. He touched the lives of many students as an auto mechanics teacher at Cocoa and Merritt Island high schools. Tom was also a facilities manager for many companies including General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Martin Marietta, the Dolphin Hotel, and various government contractors.
Services were Monday at Central Life Community Church in Cocoa. A military burial is today, Tuesday at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
