David Dedrick Obituary

David "Davo" Dedrick passed away on June 11, 2011 at the age of 56. Davo was born to Joseph and Madeleine Dedrick in Missouri and moved to Cocoa Beach as a child.

Growing up in Cocoa Beach, Davo learned to surf, and his love for the sport inspired him to eventually make a career manufacturing surfboards. Davo was very skilled in his craft, and is considered a pioneer to modern techniques in surfboard manufacturing.

Most recently Davo spent time volunteering for the Surfrider Foundation, and has served as an Esteemed Loyal Knight with the Cocoa Beach Elks Lodge.

Davo is survived by his sons, Jeffory and Michael; daughter, Rose; step-daughter, Kelly; and 5 grandchildren. Although he was an only child, Davo also leaves behind many close friends whom he "treated as a brother".

A beach service and paddle-out will be held at a date to be later determined.

Davo was very proud of his charity work, so in lieu of flowers please consider making a charitable donation to the local Surfrider Foundation.

You may sign Davo's guestbook at www.beckman-williamson.com.

Davo, I am saddened to know we lost you to cleaner bigger sets but I am truly blessed to have met you. Never down, always light-hearted and a true craftsman of the surf vessel. I had lots of fun hanging around the shop with Rick, Sammy and Bink over off Suntree in the old days. Aloha Buddy.

Dear Rose and Mickey

I am so sorry for your loss.
I'm Veerle, the daughter of Ingrid and sister of Bruno. I've met you a real long time ago, when I was just a child. But they were really nice memories. Your father was a realy nice man and was chocked when I heard the news.
I wish you a lot of strength to cope with your loss.

Greetings

Veerle

You're a beautiful soul.

A date has been set for Davo's paddle out service. It will be Saturday, July 16th. The paddle out will probably be done in the early morning followed by a Celebration of Davo's Life in the afternoon. More details to come, but please spread the word on the date. Again, the family greatly appreciates the memories, kind words, and condolences left here.

Many good sessions, good conversations, great boards built. It was always pleasure to work with Davo. A real soldier to the craft. But more important Davo was a true friend, no matter how long it had been since you may have seen him last, you could count on him to be the same ole bro. I know I have a friend in heaven. My regrets to all the family, we already miss him.

I am glad we had one last "catching up" in January, Dave. I didn't know then you were ill. You're with your mom now...and Bradi, and others of your Belgian family I remember so fondly. Thanks for the good years we had together when we were young and carefree.

I traveled with Dave to the east coast championships in 1970 in his parents' Ford Pinto. Luckily no gas tank explosion. We definitely had an interesting trip. Unfortunately only few brief encounters after that but fond memories remain. Condolences to family.
