Melbourne, FL

Bernard Charles Jacobs, "Bernie", 77, of Melbourne, FL went home to be with his Lord on September 28, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Bernard was born March 1, 1936 in Charleston, WV and preceded in death by his parents, Melissa and Bernard Jacobs of Charleston, WV.

Bernard served his country in the US Air Force from 1955-1959. He was an active member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 625 in Charleston, WV until he retired as a plumber by trade.

He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Charleston, WV where he served the Lord as an ordained deacon and also served as a trustee. He was named Father of the Year in June 1995. After moving to Melbourne, FL in April 2000, "Bernie" was an active member of Eau Gallie First Baptist Church. He served as a Parking Lot Greeter. Bernard was involved in many missions trip to Haiti, Dominican Republic, Mexico and Cuba with both church families.

Bernard is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Sue Jacobs, of Melbourne, FL; two daughters, Robin Oney and husband Randy of Charleston, WV and Kristie Gentry and husband Jimmie of Kingston, GA. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jacob Baker, Sierra Oney, Tyler Gentry, Kaylee Oney, Sydney Oney and Elijah Gentry. He is also survived by one sister, Bonnie Wolfe and her husband Larry of St. Albans, WV; and three brothers, Gene Jacobs and wife Doris of Melbourne, FL; Tom Jacobs and wife Kathy of Melbourne, FL and Chuck Jacobs and wife Sheri of Knoxville, TN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 5:00pm at Eau Gallie First Baptist Church with Pastor Ralph Nygard officiating. Visitation with the family will be thirty minutes prior to service at the church.

ln lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Benevolence Fund or Food Pantry at Eau Gallie First Baptist Church, 1501 W. Eau Gallie Boulevard, Melbourne, FL 32935.
