Command Sergeant Major Curtis Bailey was born September 15, 1947. He passed away October 11, 2013 at the William Childs Hospice House with his family at his side.
Curtis Bailey was a decorated military veteran. He was awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded in 1969 in Vietnam, an Air Fighter Medal for Combat Strike in Vietnam and an Accommodation Award from the President of the United States for being Lead Command of the 156 Field Artillery Division in charge of the transportation at Stewart Air Force Base for former President Richard Nixon. In 1997 he was promoted to Command Sergeant Major and with over 40 years of military service, retired from the military in 2007.
He was also a long time employee of the United States Postal Service. In 2005 after 38 years of service, he retired from the Newburgh, NY facility. Curt just became a life time member of the Marlboro Yacht Club, where he loved the friendship of the members, especially Neil and Sue Wycoff and the many voyages and mishaps of boating.
Curtis Bailey is survived by his wife Deane Bailey; daughters Tracie Beck and Jamie Schaper and husband William along with his loving grandson Liam Schaper. He is also survived by his in-laws Corky and Stuart Stillwaggon and Alan and Linda Nucifore; as well as nieces and nephews; brothers Thomas Bailey of NY and Darryl Bailey of MA and sister Pamela Mendoza of OH.
Curt is predeceased by his mother Barbara Piranio; brother Douglas Bailey; sister Candace Dayton and sister-in-law Deborah Nucifore.
A visitation is planned for Tuesday, October 15, 2013 from 2:00 pm-4:00 pm followed by a memorial service with full military honors at Ammen Family Cremation & Funeral Care, 950 Malabar Rd SE, Palm Bay, FL, 724-2224.
