Dr. Martin Donald Bomalaski Obituary

On December 22, 2012, Dr. Martin Donald Bomalaski, 78, died from cancer at home in Indialantic, Florida with loving family nearby. He was born on May 17, 1934 in Jasper, Indiana to Martin Felix Bomalaski and Louise Schlagel Bomalaski.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Marilyn Jones and Joan Pitkin. A sister, Linda Wessel of Jasper, Indiana, survives. He is also survived by his wife of 54 years, Julia Bomalaski; and their children, Marilyn Arnold of San Antonio, TX; Dr. David Bomalaski and his wife, Dr. Susan Bomalaski of Anchorage, Alaska; Martha Tornay and her husband, Christopher Tornay of New York City; Dr. John Bomalaski and his wife, Laura Bomalaski of Indialantic, Florida; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Dr. Bomalaski was a graduate of Notre Dame University and Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed a residency in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Following his residency he served as a captain in the Army for two years and was stationed at 93D Evacuation Hospital, Long Binh, Vietnam 1967-1968.

Upon honorable discharge, he began a 20 year career as a radiologist at Jasper Memorial Hospital. He then completed another residency, this time in psychiatry, at the University of Louisville and worked for several years at Central State Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. After retiring, he resided in Indiana and Florida.

Among his interests was a love of nature. He mourned the cutting of a tree and enjoyed hearing coyotes at night on the farm near Jasper where he and his wife lived in the summer. He had a great sense of humor and collected thousands of medical cartoons. Most of all, he was a deeply caring man for his family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM on Monday, December 31, 2012, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Indialantic. Following mass, family and friends will continue to celebrate Don's life at Gleason Park in Indian Harbour Beach, FL. A service will be held in Jasper, IN at a later date.
