Edward Ash Obituary

Edward Stanley Ash

Prescott, AZ

Edward Stanley Ash, 93, died peacefully in his sleep in the home of his youngest daughter, on Friday, May 27, 2011, in Prescott, AZ.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Ana Maria; his six daughters; four sons-in-law; two step-sons; five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Stanley was born and raised in Canton, Ohio and attended the University of Michigan before being drafted into the Army. Soon after, he was selected for the Army Air Corp, later the U.S. Air Force. He dropped paratroopers over Normandy on "D" Day and during subsequent major battles in Europe and was shot down twice. He received the Bronze Star, Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Presidential Citation with 2 Clusters, and theater ribbons with battle stars in both Europe and Korea.

In 1941, he married his beloved wife, Rosalie with whom he had six daughters. After her death in 1959, Stanley raised his six daughters alone while continuing to serve his country as a command pilot in the U.S. Air Force, and earning two Masters Degrees.

He will be remembered for all his accomplishments and for his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit.

Dad, we hope your final flight was a smooth one.

To Col. Ash's family: In my senior year at Florida Air Academy (1969-1970), he was the faculty adviser over the flying program, and I was in charge from the cadet side. We spent a lot of time together and I must say, he taught me so much about leadership and life in general. I wrote him a letter about a year ago and told him just that and how much he meant to me as a young man growing up. I'm glad that I did and want you to know how I feel also. He was a great man.

To the family of Mr. Ash: I did not know your father, but I have a great respect and awe for the veterens of the greatest generation. As I read his obituary, I was very touched. He sounded like he was a great man and I am sure you will miss him very much. He accomplished much, and I know you were proud of him. May your wonderful memories ease your grief and bring smiles to your heart. Sincerely, Donise Pick
