John Buckley Obituary

John A. Buckley - Melbourne - John A. Buck ley, 75, entered into heaven to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 19, 2009. He moved on peacefully after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who touched the hearts of everyone he knew. John knew how much we all loved him and how much he will be missed. John was born October 21, 1933, in Detroit, MI, and moved to Melbourne in 1961. He received a Bachelor of Philosophy from the University of Detroit and a Professional Designation in Contract Management from Florida Institute of Technology. He was employed with Chrysler Corporation from 1956-1963 and retired from NASA after 30 years of service in 1994. He was a member of Ascension Catholic Church since 1961. He belonged to the Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Third and Fourth Degree, Ancient Order of Hibernians and Melbourne Elks #1744. He was a City Councilman from 1986-996 and Mayor of Melbourne from 1996-2004. He was also involved with Daily Bread, Honor America, Melbourne Airport Authority, along with numerous committees and councils while he was with the City of Melbourne. He was very proud of his City and loved representing it. The Buckley family would like to extend their appreciation to the many care givers of Vitas Hos pice Care. We also appreciate the thoughts and prayers of all of our friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Helen E. Buckley; sons, Brian (Helen) and Patrick; daughters, Patricia Bachman, Coleen Buckley, Denise (Mike) Mayhew and Diane Buckley; and seven grandchildren. John and I worked together in the same office at the O&C Building at KSC for several years. He proved to be a joy to work with, a man of great integrity, honesty, and intelligence. It was a shock to discover that John has left us, but I will always have pleasurable memories of him and our relationship. Our hearts go out to John's family at this sad time. With heartfelt sympathy, Ed and Raymonda Luginbuhl.

To John Buckley's wife, children and family - Although he will be greatly missed in this lifetime, because of your deep faith you know you'll be reunited again in Heaven. While working at KSC/NASA I had the honor or knowing him. He was greatly respected and looked up to by all who knew him.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to Helen and the Buckley family. Working at the City of Melbourne when John was our Mayor was a delightful time. I fondly remember his willingness to mentor children at University Park Elementary with many of us who volunteered. Watching John with the child he was given was always such a joy! He had so much patience and love for them all. John called many of us employees by our first names and always took the time to say hello. My prayers are with you that you will find great peace in the days ahead just knowing that John is in God's presence. Please know how much of an impact John's sweet spirit made on us. He will be missed greatly.

Pat, Helen and Buckley Family
It is rare in today's world to have a man in Public Office who is filled with such integrity, John was a man who was a great Catholic Irish gentleman who lived his faith everyday, worked to enhance the lives of others and touched so many with his wit and compassion. He is a great role model and a hero of the city. May all the warm memories of him help you in the days ahead. We hold you all in prayer.
With deepest sympathies

Thank you to all of my family and family's friends who have been so supportive and for all who attend the services in honor of my Dad. I personally want to recogonize not only Dr. Lisa Duhaine but the wonderful care givers from Vitas Hospice. Without them the battle my father fought would not have been managed in the manner he wished to spend his final days. They have been such a blessing to our family and we shall never forget. Dad will be greatly missed but will live on as a legend in our hearts and this community. Our Irish man is with God and we will meet again. Love Forever.
