John Edward Kassak, of Titusville, has gone home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. He was born in Akron, Ohio, July 5, 1940, of Polish and German heritage and grew up in Detroit, Michigan.
He went to the University of Michigan and graduated from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee, with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went to work for NASA at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, where he met his wife, Cheryl. They then moved to Cocoa Beach where he continued to work for NASA for a total of 43 years. He worked on the I.S.S. as Coordinating Engineer for 20 years.
He was an active member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, the Polish-American Club, the Accordion Club and the ALS Support Group.
He leaves behind his wife, Cheryl; his daughter, Cheryl Maryam; his granddaughters, Amaal, Anna and Fatima; sister, Linda Stabenow and family of Lehigh Acres, FL; relatives in Poland; and his beloved nephew, Curtis Rice, who was his loving caregiver who was with him til the end.
Family and loved ones may pay their respects from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday, October 22, at North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, with interment at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. A Celebration of Life will follow at St. Teresa's Avilla Hall at the Church.
