John R. Rodriguez passed on Friday, November 16, 2012 in Cocoa Beach. He was born in the Bronx, NY on August 31, 1935 and moved to Ybor City, Tampa, FL at the age of 4. He graduated high school from Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Upon graduation, he attended Georgia Institute of Technology, studying Industrial Engineering.
He moved to Florida in 1960 and worked for The Boeing Company at KSC in a design group attached to the Apollo Launch Program. In 1969, his design group received award and recognition for avoiding an aborted launch of Apollo 11.
On July 2, 1965 he married Martha Davis, his loving wife and best friend of 47 years.
In 1975 he established Santa Cruz Construction, Inc. Among the numerous awards the company has received is, 1984 SE Region USBA 8(a) Company of the Year, 1985 KSC Small Minority Business of the Year, 1986 KSC Small Minority Contractor, 1992 Rockwell International's Outstanding Subcontractor and the 1995 Bellsouth Small Business of the Year.
In his leisure time he enjoyed spending time with his family and coaching his sons. Later in life he set out on traveling adventures with Martha, including visiting all 7 continents, all 5 oceans and all 7 seas.
He is survived by wife, Martha; sons, Marcelo, Randy, Lance and Dacks; daughter-in-laws, Nicole, Mary and Amira; nephew, John; niece, Cynthia; grandsons, Adam, Cole and Jett; as well as countless loving friends.
The visitation will be Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Beckman Williamson Funeral Home, 5400 Village Drive, Viera, FL 32955 from 6 pm to 8 pm (prayer vigil at 7 pm).
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 1940 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island, FL at 10:30 am followed by the graveside service at Florida Memorial Gardens, 5950 US 1, Rockledge, FL 32955. A reception will follow the graveside service at Merritt Island Presbyterian Church, 600 S. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island, FL 32952.
