June Bailey Harlow, 84, died on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 in Melbourne. She was born on July 17, 1929 to the late Basil and Rae Byers Bailey in Oolitic, IN.
A 1947 graduate of Oolitic High School, she graduated from Indiana University and earned a master's degree at the University of Arizona.
She met her husband John Harlow, from Liverpool, England while teaching in an American school in Caracas, Venezuela. They were married in Liverpool in 1963 and made their home in the San Francisco Bay area for many years before moving to IN, the Canary Islands, and finally to Palm Bay.
A dedicated teacher, Mrs. Harlow taught English, literature, and journalism while overseeing production of the newspaper and yearbook, devoting tremendous amounts of personal time to the development of her students. She taught for over 40 years, including time at West Washington and Connersville High Schools in IN. She was a writer of poetry and was passionate about her family and humanitarian causes. She nurtured lifelong friendships that she made while traveling the world with her husband John, the love of her life.
Survivors include her daughters Jennifer Hawkins-Adams and Julie Springer; sons-in-law Will Springer and John Adams; grandchildren Christopher Hawkins and his wife Allison, Kendall Files and her husband Dustin, Kelsey and Dane Springer; her sister Janice Bailey of Oolitic, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 2002, her grandson Jared Hawkins in 1984; and her brothers Kenneth in 1932 and Robert in 1959.
