Louise Bowen passed away peacefully on November 5, 2013. Louise is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Bowen, of Melbourne, Florida; her son and daughter in law, Jim (Jr.) and Lynn Bowen of Indialantic, Florida; two granddaughters, Debbi Walker (husband Dennis) of Cocoa Beach, FL and Karie Ryan (husband David) of Indialantic, FL; and six great grandchildren, Madilynn and Steven Walker of Cocoa Beach and Michael, Daniel, Joseph, and Kathryn Ryan of Indialantic.
Born Rebecca Louise Cochran in Grandin, Missouri on July 15th, 1920, Louise grew up in Cushing, Oklahoma with four brothers, James, Richard, Robert and Frank, all of whom predeceased her. After high school she attended business school and worked in Oklahoma City where she met a young army officer, Jim Bowen. Louise and Jim were married in Cushing on April 21, 1946. Louise was the consummate army wife, serving her husband's units and their military and civilian communities. She volunteered and fund-raised for churches, hospitals, scouts, Red Cross, United Way, Army Emergency Relief and many other service organizations. During the Viet Nam war, while Jim trained helicopter pilots, Louise served on countless next of kin notifications at the army's helicopter training centers at Fort Wolters, Texas and Fort Rucker, Alabama.
After Jim's retirement in 1972 they lived in Louise's home town of Cushing, Oklahoma until 1991 when they relocated to Melbourne, Florida to be near their children, grandchildren and soon-to-be great grandchildren. Louise appreciated her long association with and support of her PEO sisters. Jim and Louise were devoted members of the Suntree United Methodist Church. Louise will be greatly missed and forever loved.
