Mary Ellen King, 86, passed away peacefully on August 23, 2012. Mary Ellen was born in Vandalia, Illinois to the late Orville and Ina Lape.
After high school, she went to business college in St. Louis, MO. She was employed by the FBI in Puerto Rico, where she met her husband, Philip Turner King. Following his death in 1974, Mary Ellen continued to raise her family, and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Rollins College.
Mary Ellen was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Cocoa Beach where she served her church in various capacities. She enjoyed Bible studies with her women's circle and also enjoyed her time with a close knit group of women in Cocoa Beach who met weekly for breakfast.
Mary Ellen was an avid reader and passionate world traveler. She traveled the globe with friends and family to Hawaii, Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Caribbean, Europe and the Orient.
Mary Ellen's ultimate passion was her family. She loved being a mom and grandmother. Her greatest joys were big family dinners and gatherings where she enjoyed time spent with her children and grandchildren.
She leaves behind daughters, Patricia Paine (Jonathan), Marianne Lewis (Hill); son, Philip Turner King (Lou Anne); grandchildren, James (Christina) and Elizabeth Paine, Turner and Alexandra King; great grandson, Liam King; niece, Diane Lape and nephew, Terry Lape.
She was predeceased by her two brothers, Orville and Lindy Lape; sister, Georgia Ann Lape; and nephew, Scott Lape.
Her beloved family will hold a private celebration of her life.
