Melanie Mathis Mucklow

Melbourne Beach, FL

Melanie Mathis Mucklow, 70, of Arlington, VA, formerly of Melbourne Beach in the 1970's and 80's, died quietly of pneumonia on September 3, 2013, in Falls Church, VA, with her family at her side.

Melanie was a 1960 graduate of Orlando's Edgewater High School, Florida Southern College, and Stetson University, and a resident of Vienna, VA; Melbourne Beach, FL; Manila, the Philippines; Boston, MA; and Arlington, VA. As an accomplished artist, teacher, wife, mother, community leader, counselor, mentor and friend, Melanie always tried to make the world a better place -- whether through organized volunteer work, or behind-the-scenes outreach, or selfless acts.

Daughter of the late Edward Baker Mathis and Berneice Beatrice Tucker Mathis Moon, Melanie is survived by her loving husband of nearly 50 years, Glenn Mucklow; daughter Shawn Williams (Kent), son Eric Mucklow (Lacy), sister Joy Bowen (Dean); cousin Stephanie Bates; and two grandsons.
