Melvin Saathoff Obituary


Melvin Saathoff, of Cocoa, FL, died Wednesday, June 1, 2011 after a long, hard fight against leukemia. He was born in Ashkum, IL, March 26, 1936 to John and Leona Saathoff as the youngest of 11 children.

Mel served in the Army for 2 years, was a guard at Joliet State Prison, and retired after 42 years with United Airlines as ramp service lead.

He loved his sports, especially his hometown Bulls and White Sox. Mel enjoyed the relaxation of gardening around the house as well as his time delivering pizza for his Pizza Pan business in Cocoa, FL. He was known as "Pops" to his beloved customers.

Mel is survived by his wife, June; his 2 children, Ted Saathoff and Adrianne Camacho; his 2 step-children, Greg Dandurand and Tammy Kennedy; his sisters, Agnus Gresen and Barbara Miller; and brothers, Herman and Leo Saathoff of Illinois.

The memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm June 5, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church in Merritt Island, with a reception to follow.
