Ralph "Jim" Imes, of Melbourne, passed peacefully surrounded by family, at his home, on September 13, 2012, after 81 memorable years. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ruth "Carol" Imes, after 49 years of marriage.

Jim was born in Cumberland, Maryland on December 31, 1930, to the late Ralph Ernest Imes and Bessie June Smith. He was a 1949 graduate of Ridgeley High School located in Ridgeley, WV.

He served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After relocating from Manassas, VA in the 1960's, he made his home in Melbourne, FL. He was proud and felt privileged to have been a part of the space program for 30 years.

He is survived by his six children, son, Michael Imes and daughter-in-law, Sherry Imes; daughter, Jody Baum; son, Sonny Imes and daughter-in-law, Kathy Imes; daughter, Jeanne Hale and son-in-law, Michael Hale; daughter, Sharon Duncan and son-in-law, Bruce Duncan; and daughter, Jamie Powell. He is also survived by brothers, Richard R. Imes and sister-in-law, Jackie Imes, David A. Imes and sister-in-law, Vicki Imes, sister-in-law, Joan Imes; 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and loyal dog, Miss Mocha.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Oneida "Peach" Robbins, and his brother, Michael Wayne Imes.

His memorial service will be October 27, 2012, at 11:00 am, at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 South Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL.
