Robert P. (Phil) Gaarder, 89 of Indialantic, Florida died peacefully Sunday evening, September 15, 2013 with his children by his side.

Phil was married to June Gunderson (deceased Dec. 2012) for 65 years and survived by his son Bruce (Bonnie), Sandra (Hans), Karen (Tony), Korinne and Shirley, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Phil, a devout Christian, loved his family, country and community. His Navy career spanned 30 years, including 3 wars, WWII, Korea and Vietnam, ending with the Space Program as Chief of Recovery for the Apollo. After retiring, he was founder and owner of G&L Laundry Centers, Inc., building Laundromats as well as selling and servicing of commercial and industrial laundry and dry cleaning equipment. His volunteer services included the Melbourne Chamber of Commerce, Indialantic Rotary Club where he became District 698 Governor in 1988/89. His volunteer service at Florida Tech included membership on the Florida Tech Athletic Advisory Council, founder and chairman of the Florida Tech Spring Festival, and founding member and President of the Panther Athletic Association all of which resulted in being inducted into their Hall of Fame. He was an active member of numerous Lutheran churches where he volunteered his time as Choir Director.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, 20 September at 2:00 p.m. at Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge.

Phil's legacy will live on in all the lives he touched. He will be truly missed.
