William Scott Adair, 58, of Palm Bay, Florida passed away suddenly on April 29, 2013 in an aviation accident. Scott was born in Portland, Maine on January 10, 1955 and attended Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough schools.
He graduated from Scarborough High School in 1973 and went onto college at the University of Maine, Orono. Scott played goalie for the Maine Black Bears hockey team and was an avid Boston Bruins fan. He was a self-taught musician, specializing in bass guitar, which he played for more than a decade in the classic rock band "The Impalas".
His passions were participating in shows at the Lewiston-Auburn Community Little Theater and teaching students to fly powered paragliders (PPGs). An avid and experienced PPG pilot himself, Scott loved to educate people about the sport. Recently, Scott worked with the Palm Bay Police Department to develop their Search Operations Aerial Response program, in which he trained officers to use PPGs for law enforcement purposes. He helped to organize numerous fly-ins throughout Maine and Florida. His love of adventure and his fierce love of friends and family will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Roberta "Bobbie" Violette Adair of Palm Bay, FL; children, Robyn Adair (Daniel Meade) of Schaghticoke, NY and Ryan Adair (Jen Adair) of Auburn, ME; granddaughter, Molly Meade; mother, Helen Stover Adair of Cape Elizabeth, ME; step-mother, Kitty/ Melody Adair of Daytona Beach, FL; sisters, Susan Ross of Scarborough, ME and Sherry Taylor of Gorham, ME; brother, Robert Adair, Jr., of N. Conway, NH; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Robert Adair, Sr., of Daytona Beach, FL.
Services will be held at the Fountainhead Funeral Home, 7303 Babcock St. SE, Palm Bay, FL on Thursday, May 2, 2013 from 11 AM to 1 PM. Services will also be held in Maine sometime later in May.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Scott's memory be made to the Palm Bay Police Athletic League, 1502 Port Malabar Blvd. NE, Palm Bay, FL 32905.
