Yue-Eng Wang Obituary

Yue-Eng Gail Wang

Palm Bay

Yue-Eng Gail Wang left this world on November 9, 2011 following a year-long battle with cancer.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan on June 8, 1948, of Jin-Jing Lee and Hong-Gan Chen, she attended Taipei First Girls High School and received her Bachelor's degree in History at National Taiwan University in 1970, graduating first in her class. She earned a Ph.D. in Cultural Anthropology with a specialization in Gerontology from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1979.

Dr. Wang married William Gabrenya, a professor at Florida Institute of Technology, in 1980. After giving birth to their two children, she earned a Master's degree in Computer Science at Florida Tech in 1987. She retired from Harris Corporation in November, 2010 after serving 17 years as a software engineer.

Yue-eng is survived by her husband, William; and her two children, William K. Gabrenya III of Brooklyn, New York and Annamarie Lee Hoenig of Munich, Germany. She is also survived by four sisters, Yue-Erg Lee Deng, Yue-Guey Loo, Yue-Mei Ho, and Yue-Fong Trost; by three brothers, Pou-Fa Lee, Pou-Tsai Lee, and Pou-Lin Lee; and by 5 nieces and 6 nephews. She was predeceased by her dog, Ada, named for a computer programming language, her knowledge of which secured her first position in software engineering.

Yue-eng loved to travel, passing her enthusiasm along to her children and assuredly to the grandchildren whom she will never see. She enjoyed one of the most pleasant and enriching final periods of her life in a 2008 sabbatical with her husband to Bremen, Germany. She rallied in early September of this year to accompany her loving family and new son-in-law, Daniel, to the German Alps for her last mountain hike.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Florida Institute of Technology to support an academic fund to honor her. Checks can be made out to: Florida Institute of Technology, and mailed to: Florida Institute of Technology, Office of Development, 150 W. University Blvd., Melbourne, FL 32901. Please write "Gail Wang" in the memo line of your check.
