Frank James Bianco, beloved husband and father, found his peace with the Lord February 13, 2013. Frank was born in Brooklyn, NY May 22, 1920 and moved to Merritt Island, FL in 1975. An avid aviator, Frank loved flying and joined the Army Air Corp as an aviation cadet in 1941 serving as a pilot in both WWII and Korea.
In 1942, Frank was sent to China to form a cadre of 12 pilots for the 23rd Fighter Group to replace the Original Flying Tigers. Frank then flew P-38's in the Pacific until January 1945 when he was assigned to the 413th flying P-47's. He was wounded and crashed during a Japanese raid on Okinawa. Upon release, Frank returned to work at the New York Naval Shipyard as an inspection analyst. He was recalled to the Korean War and served 2 years. Frank was awarded the DFC, Silver Star, 2 Purple Hearts, Air Medals, Bronze Star, and theater ribbons.
As a civilian, Frank became a government analyst for the intelligence community, served three years as a sky marshal, and retired with 34 years of government service in 1975. Frank then joined the aerospace industry and retired from Lockheed as a space shuttle program senior inspection analyst in 1991.
Frank's loves were his family, friends, and flying. Frank was married to the love of his life for 25 years, Barbara June Bianco. He is survived by his wife; sister, Josie Drapala, Mount Holly, NJ; children, Frank James Bianco Jr., Spring Hill, Chuck Hardison, Merritt Island, Kendra Eddings, Cocoa; 3 nieces; 1 nephew; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive guests on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 10 AM to 11 AM at Faith Viera Lutheran Church, 5550 Faith Dr, Viera, FL 32955. Frank's memorial service will be held after the visitation with inurnment following immediately thereafter at Florida Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Frank J. Bianco's name may be made to VITAS Hospice Brevard.
