Charles Palmer Obituary
Charles Palmer

Rockledge, FL

Charles Grayson Palmer (Chuck, Charlie, Chief Pilot), born May 21, 1922, passed away on October 2, 2013.

One of seven children, growing up on a farm in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, he learned the value of hard work early in life.

His first job after high school, was as a fireman on the locomotives of the Pennsylvania railroad.

As a member of the 'Greatest Generation' he proudly served as a corporal in the Army Air Corps (now Air Force) during World War II. He was an aerial gunnery instructor on B-24 bombers.

Following World War II he began a 35 year career with the Bell Telephone Company, starting in Pennsylvania, transferring to Florida in 1962 and concluding in 1982 with his retirement from Southern Bell in Titusville, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth G. Palmer, three daughters, Marilyn Walker (Ivan), Debbie Huether (Jake), Mary Katherine Stark (John), and sister, Bernice Palangi. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Nicole Stokes (Mark), Brooke Benetatos (Philip), Carrie Hays (Andy), Brett Huether (Sara) and eight great grandchildren.

He was a devoted and active member of Messiah Lutheran Church for over 50 years. He also served his community by participating in the Kiwanis, Civil Air Patrol, and Telephone Pioneers organizations. He loved piloting small planes, wood working, restoring cars, clocks, travel, cookies and helping others. Many would remember him from his years of selling Christmas trees in Rockledge.

Charles was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and friend who leaves a legacy that will be long remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 5th, 10-11 a.m at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 U.S. Highway 1, Rockledge, FL. Service to follow at 11. Burial will be in Florida Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Messiah Lutheran Church, Cocoa, Florida

The family would like to gratefully acknowledge our angels (Ana, Esther, Florence, Marian and Sonny) who so lovingly helped our dad remain in his own home until he passed. Also many thanks to Wuesthoff Hospice & Pallitive Care for such compassionate care at the end of his life.
