Barbara Lynn Scherrer Batterton (Lynn) of Tallahassee, Florida passed away on March 4, 2014 after a long illness at Eden Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Crawfordville, Florida.
Lynn was born on December 29, 1944 at Washington, D.C. of John C. Adams, Jr. and Barbara Ann Griffith Adams. John Adams died during WWII, and Barbara married Robert Scherrer, who adopted Lynn as his daughter. She attended Sacred Heart School, Norfolk Catholic High School, and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. As she grew up, Lynn was a great help in taking care of her younger siblings. She was always cheerful and never complained, even when she had to take her young sisters and brothers with her on dates. From her first marriage to Glyn Dale Bass, she had two children, Jay Brannon Bass of Orlando, Florida and Jeffery Dana Bass of Titusville, Florida. She worked to help put her husband through college, and drove a school bus when her children were in high school. She was a supporter of the Little League team that her sons participated in. As her children were becoming more independent, she took up tole painting as a hobby. Her relatives and friends still have many of her pieces that she lovingly decorated and shared. She also loved to bake and to share what she made. She was the family historian, and carefully kept volumes of photo albums. She was married to Lawrence D. Batterton in Titusville, Florida. While living in Tallahassee, her favorite job was with the YMCA. She loved to design fliers and posters for events and special occasions. And she always loved working with children. She had a way of making them feel special. Following her employment at the YMCA she worked for the state of Florida.
Lynn is survived by her husband, Lawrence Batterton of Tallahassee, Florida, and by her siblings Ann Scherrer Lyle, Robert A. Scherrer, Jr., Patricia Scherrer, Elizabeth Scherrer, Susan Toni Scherrer, and Virginia Scherrer Schellenberg.
