Douglas Charles Wilkie
Douglas Charles Wilkie, 48, of Melbourne, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 after a long courageous battle with multiple myeloma cancer. He was born in New Orleans to Robert and Joy Wilkie on October 16, 1965.
Doug is survived by his wife of 19 years, Maria Teresa (Tessie), and their three children; Peter, Andrew, and Victoria; mother, Joy Wilkie; brother, Robert Wilkie (Julie); sister, Dana Laskey (Lawrence); maternal grandmother, Marie Somerville; mother-in-law, Miriam Jane'; sisters-in-law, Miriam Burns (Mike), Lourdes Wyatt (Jim). He is beloved Uncle Doug to six nephews and two nieces.
Doug was a graduate of Western Kentucky University, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He earned a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Central Florida, while working for the Walt Disney Company in Human Resources. Most recently, he worked as an Information Technology Consultant for Capgemini. He was a member of Ascension Catholic Church. Although his adult life was spent in Florida, Doug stayed true to his New Orleans roots, with a passion for the culture, food, and Saints football. He was loved for his sense of humor, political quips, and extensive knowledge of history and trivia. He will be greatly missed.
Calling hours were held on Monday, March 17, from 6 to 8PM, prayer service at 7PM, Beach Funeral Home, 4999 N. Wickham Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM, Tuesday, March 18, at Ascension Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ascension Catholic School or Melbourne Central Catholic High School in support of the Wilkie children's Catholic education.
