Donald Gene (Butch) Butcher of Merritt Island passed away Friday, March 21, at Cape Canaveral Hospital at the age of 78.
Butch was born August 11, 1935 in Zanesville, Ohio. He began work for North American Rockwell in California before joining the USAF in !955. He also worked a year in Air Force Reserve Sea Service and returned to employment with Rockwell International accumulating 42 years of service. He worked on all the areospace rocket and shuttle programs at KSC and retired as Associate Supervisor of National Operations (Shuttle Move Crew). He was a member of Moose Lodge 2073, Legionaire and American Legion Post 332.
Preceded in death by his son, James Leslie Harry; brothers Fred and Ron Butcher. Survived by Jean, his wife of 34 years; daughters Kathy (Charles) Groseclose, Brenda (Patrick) Tracy, Donna (John) Walker, Frances Butcher and Penny Bowers. He had 14 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous niece's and nephews. His brothers Steve (Nancy); Mike (Sue) and sisters Sue (Ken) Miller and Geneva Sue (Don) Roberts.
Arrangements entrusted to Brevard Memorial Funeral Home, 5475 North US Hwy 1, Cocoa, Fl 32927. Viewing Friday, March 28 between 6 and 8 PM. Funeral services will begin Saturday, March 29 at 1:00 PM with viewing at noon. Food and refreshments will be provided at the Moose Lodge 2073, 3150 North Courtney Parkway immediately following the services.
