Melbourne, FL

Earl C. Reed, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. He was born August 19, 1926 in Timothy Township, Crow Wing Co., MN and raised in Milwaukee, WI, graduating from South Division High School. Earl honorably served in the Army Air Corps working on the P-47D and was discharged in 1946. Earl furthered his studies at Milwaukee School of Engineering, receiving a BA in Electrical Engineering.

He was employed by Boeing Co. and was a part of flight testing in Wichita, KS. While in Kansas, he worked steadily on the B-47 and the B-52 programs. He was the sole survivor of a B-52 crash that occurred in Oklahoma and with his expertise, Earl assisted investigators in troubleshooting what went wrong with the aircraft. Earl transferred to Cape Canaveral, FL to work on the Minuteman Missile 1-3 programs and Vandenberg Air Force Base, CA, before finishing up his 38 year career in Seattle, WA as a manager of the E-3A (AWACS) program.

He was predeceased by his mother, Carmie Anderson-Kemke; step- father, Edward C. Kemke; infant brother, Edwin Kemke; infant son, Eric Reed.

Earl leaves many memories to be cherished by his beloved wife of 66 years, Marion Mason-Reed; children, Dr. Donald M. Reed (Linda), Janet Eldred, Ruth Reed Glover (Arvid), David Reed (Evelyn), Robert Reed and James Reed; 12 grandchildren, Connie Eiler Cassel, Deborah Eldred, John Reed (Holly), Jennifer Eiler, Brian Reed (Hayley), Michelle Eldred, Steven Cassel, William Reed (Jasmine), Ben Cassel, James Reed Jr., Andrew Reed and Annika Reed; 15 great-grandchildren, Terrence, Brandon, Adina, Caleb, Evan, Nathan, Aaron, Kaleb, Ethan, Kaden, Brylie, Nolan, Elijah, Coltan and Crystal. Earl will be forever in our hearts.

Services will be held privately at a later date.
