Aukje Alexandra Pappalardo

S. Merritt Island, FL

Aukje Alexandra Pappalardo of S. Merritt Island, spread her wings and left this world but not the hearts of those who love her, on April 19, 2014.

Born March 25, 1957 in Amsterdam, Holland, Aukje was a true "Amsterdammer", knowing and loving the city, its history, people, culture and customs. A tall, beautiful woman, she carried the way of life in Holland to America, always with those special stories and viewpoints on life. She was brought up in a world of the arts by her artist father and brother, and always had an eye for style. From her mother, she brought wisdom and a very special perspective to daily life.

She built her world around her family; husband, Richard; daughters, Kristina (with Major Clark) and Jenna; late father, Lex Metz and mother, Henriette Metz of Amsterdam; sister, Lynne Konigsberger and husband Johan van den Bol; and nephew, Jurriaan van den Bol of Houten, Holland; late brother, Klaas Metz, and wife Jet Metz Edelsmid, of Amsterdam.

Aukje was a champion of equality for all, and always had special concern for children, the underprivileged, and animals. She was first in line to help those in need. Nature shows were her absolute favorite. She did everything for her "girls" and loved them with all her heart. Nearly every photo of Aukje shows her hovering over Kristina and Jenna giving love, guidance, and that special friendship only seen between mother and daughter. Her selfless caring, very special sense of humor, and smile will always be remembered. Our hearts are broken.

Private services will be held at a later date.
