Edward F. Brandt

Rockledge, FL

Edward F. Brandt, 82, passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014 in Rockledge.

He was born November 18, 1931 in Altoona, PA, and was the son of the late Paul F. and Helen L. (Corless) Brandt. A 1949 graduate of Altoona High School, he married Joan I. Burkhart on December 29, 1950. They moved to Rockledge in 1991.

Ed's extraordinary career included 22 years of military service. As a member of the Air Force, he played in the USAF Band Drum and Bugle Corps and became a special investigator for the AP/OSI. As a member of the U.S. Army, he became a criminal investigator for the MP/CID and a commander of criminal investigations in Vietnam and back in the U.S. His service awards numbered many citations and medals, including the Bronze Star.

After military retirement, he was employed by Retail Credit Company, Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board as the western division office manager/security officer, and Pennsylvania Department of Welfare as the central PA office manager/chief investigator. After final retirement, he continued to work part-time for Douglas-Guardian as an inventory auditor. Ed enjoyed reading paperback novels, playing cards, collecting clowns, and was an avid sports fan - pro/college/high school football (especially Penn State), basketball, baseball, and boxing. His real passions were bowling and jazz.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joan; and sister, Mary L. (Brandt) Robinson. He is survived by son, Edward F. Jr and his wife Angela D.; son, James P.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2014 from 10-11am, with a funeral service directly following at 11:00 at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial, 5950 South U.S. Highway 1, Rockledge, FL 32955 (321-636-8943). Donations in Ed's name may be made to Wuesthoff Brevard Hospice.
