Benford Hickman Johnson, age 85, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2014 in Merritt Island, FL.
He was born and raised in Staunton, VA on August 18, 1928. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute after serving in the United States Air Force. He was an aeronautical engineer at NASA and retired in 1994 after 38 years of government service. He enjoyed golf, woodworking, Civil War history, and was our ultimate "handyman" around the house.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Johnson, to whom he was married for over 56 years. His children include his daughters, Lynda and Patty, and his son, Matt who we lost in 1979. He is survived by his niece Melissa Johnson and nephew Robert W. Johnson, III. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Nellie Johnson, a brother, Robert and sister, Betty.
A private graveside service is planned for early June in his hometown of Staunton at Thornrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis would be appreciated and can be made online atwww.themiamiproject.org.
