Archibald Johnson Webb, was born July 10, 1928 in Oxford, NC, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Devin Webb. He passed away Saturday, June 14, 2014. His early schooling was in Oxford, NC, and then in Wilson, NC, where he spent most of his young life. He was a graduate of the University of NC, where he pledged Phi Gamma Delta. He served in the Korean War and was chosen as General Van Fleet's personal bodyguard. Later he joined his father in the wholesale auctioning of tobacco crops in KY and GA. Mr. Webb was an accomplished portrait and still-life painter, having studied at the Farnsworth School of Art in Sarasota, FL, where he made his home for many years. He was also a Lifetime Member of the Melbourne Art League. He loved playing the guitar and singing, playing the flute, and telling great stories. He also was a substitute teacher at Satellite High, and some of the local schools.
He is survived by a step-daughter, Cassie Stephan, three step-grandchildren, Erica, Nick, and Ella Stephan, as well as several neices and nephews in NC. There will be a visitation at Beach Funeral Home on June 24th from 5 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Art Students Guild of Brevard, 909 East New Haven Ave., Ste. 301, Melbourne, FL, 32901 or Hospice of Health First.
