Jack Hendren, 88, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014 after an extended illness. Jack was born May 26, 1926 in Vinton County, OH. At age 18, he joined the U.S. Army. During his enlistment Jack served in the Pacific and the Occupation of Japan. He attained the rank of Sergeant while serving in the Army. He was injured and left the service in 1946.

Jack and his father were construction contractors who came to Brevard County in 1951 at the commencement of the space program. Jack's construction career extended over 50 years and involved numerous projects.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Denise H. Kelly (Paul); son, Jack D. Hendren (Lynn); his son, Gary M. Hendren (Cathy) predeceased him. He was also survived by six grandchildren, Christopher R. Hendren, Jaclyn H. Mazac, David D. Hendren, Diana E. Hendren, John M. Hendren and Steven D. Hendren; three step-grandchildren, Teresa M. Geist, Jennifer L. Brooks, and Steven P. Kelley, 13 great-grandchildren, and three women who meant a great deal to him, Mary Prim, Floretta Haynes, and Nadel Howes.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 16, 2014 from 10 - 11 a.m., followed by funeral service at 11 a.m. at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home in Cocoa.
