Barbara Ann (Cheske) Campbell of Merritt Island passed away at age 67 on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 after a very courageous 10-year battle with lymphoma.
Barbara was born in Margaretville, NY on May 22, 1947 to Thomas and Mary Gordon Cheske and moved with her parents to Atlantic Ave. in Canova Beach, FL when she was eight. There they joined an extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins (Sandy Waldinger, Patrick and Nancy Faggianelli) and spent many happy years. In 1969 Barbara met David Campbell, the love of her life, on a very successful blind date. They were married in 1974 and together they raised their family of five children. Through the years Barbara worked in many professions, including secretary, real estate agent, and administrative assistant to a brokerage firm.
Barbara had a passion for nature and wildlife. Her yard was certified by the National Wildlife Federation as a Wildlife Habitat. Her nickname was 'The Butterfly Lady' because she created a butterfly garden to raise and protect them.
Barbara was predeceased by both of her parents, and her beloved son, Danny. She is survived by her husband, David; her sons, Mike (Billy), Robert (Mayra), David (Donna) and her daughter, Melissa. She has 16 grandchildren; Ryan, Matthew (Jessie), Jillian (Derek), Jamin (Andrea), Corban (Raquel), Caleb, Deborah (James), Rachel (Dan), Joseph, Benjamin (Candice), Abigail (Caleb), Katherine, Julie, Jessica, Travis, and Haley, and nine beautiful great-grandchildren.
The family will never be quite the same without her. We are all going to miss her. Anyone that ever met Barbara will always remember her beautiful smile and contagious laughter that made her so loved by all.
The service will be held on Saturday, July 19th at 11 a.m. at Wylie- Baxley Funeral Home at 1360 N. Courtenay Pkwy, Merritt Island. The family will have an open house and luncheon at their home immediately following. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the National Lymphoma Society.
