1923 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Enid 'Skippy' Westby Schmalfuss

Palm Bay, FL

Enid Marie 'Skippy' Westby Schmalfuss passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014. Born in Sparta, WI on February 13, 1923 to Otis and Lota Westby. The family later moved to La Crosse, WI and lived there until moving to Washington, DC in 1935 where she graduated from Eastern High School in 1941. It was also in the DC area that she met and married Wilfred Schmalfuss and raised a daughter and two sons.

Skippy loved working in sales, beginning with Stanley Home Products, then worked for Woodward and Lothrop until her husband retired from Safeway Stores in the early 70's. After retirement they moved to Palm Bay, FL and she began working at Sears Stores doing demonstrations and sales of both an eye glass cleaner and T-Fal Pans. She loved meeting and talking with people, which led to her success at the last job she held selling World Book Encyclopedias door to door.

She is survived by her two sons, William James of Churchville, NY, and Richard Walter of Annapolis, MD; her daughters-in-law, Linda and Susan; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents, Otis and Lota; husband, Wilfred; sister, Lois; brother, James; her daughter, Anne Marie; and son-in-law, Ken Curtis.

She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church of Melbourne, FL for over 35 years, where a visitation and memorial service will be held beginning at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 31. Interment will follow at Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge at 1:30, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. In her own words, Skippy "enjoyed everything about life, and loved the Lord and other people". That is how she wished to be remembered. The Life Event Center at Florida Memorial is entrusted with arrangements.
