Vivian A Gleiter

Melbourne, FL

Vivian A Gleiter, 96, of Melbourne, FL passed Thursday, July 31, 2014 following a short illness due to a stroke. Born in Woodville, WI, June 7, 1918, Vivian was born to Bill and Louis Lindus. She grew up on the family farm in Hammond, WI helping her Dad farm until her younger brothers Richard and Ken were born when she was a teenager. She attended River Falls State Teachers College and went on to teach in a one room school house grades 1 to 8. This was the start of a lifetime of elementary education in WI, MD, and PA. She married Werner Gleiter 08/06/1941 after meeting Werner (who called her the prettiest girl in Hammond) when he ran over one of her mothers chickens on County T. Werner had a lifetime in the Navy (retied Captain) and in government work at the Naval Air warfare Center as a leader in ASW. Mom taught elementary school most of her life. In retirement they traveled the US and Canada in an Airstream trailer and retired from Warminster PA to The Colony Club in Melbourne, FL.

After Werner's death she moved to The Town Square assisted living in Melbourne. She belonged to Women's Club, PTA, Navy Officers Wives Club, Church Council, Bible School Superintendent. Werner and Vivian were members of Advent Lutheran Church in Melbourne. Vivian and Werner had two sons, Donald Gleiter of Warminster PA, and David Gleiter of Overland Park, KS.

She was predeceased by her husband, Werner and brother, Ken Lindus.

She is survived by her brother, Richard Lindus, sisters in law, Jean Lindus and Ginny Lindus of Baldwin, WI and sons, Donald and wife Rena and David and wife Marilyn, four grandchildren, Daniel, Jason, Justin and Melinda, and six great grandchildren Jeffry, Zachary, Jacob, Hannah, Elizabeth, and Abigail.

Visitation, Monday, August 4, 2014 at 9 a.m. followed by services at 10 a.m. at Florida Memorial Gardens.
