Fred James Pando

Fred James Pando (CWO3 USN Ret.), 92, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at William Childs Hospice House after a short illness. He was born in Northfield, VT on March 18, 1922 to Rafael and Celina Pando. Raised in Buffalo, NY, he joined the Navy in 1940 and served on submarines during WWII. In 1944 he married his childhood sweetheart, Maria 'Nancy' Ventura, and they happily celebrated their 70th anniversary in January of 2014. In 1960 he went to work for Martin-Marietta for 23 years as Rocket Area Supervisor.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, brother, and sister, Raymond Pando and Amelia Brink. He is survived by four children, Janet (Manuel) Vitoria, Fred (Karen) Pando, Jim Pando, and Nancy (David) Keck; nine grandchildren, Michelle (Casey) Cato, Sharon (David) Smith, Nancy (Matt) Ellis, Julie Vitoria, Josh (Clydeana) Pando, Andy and Nancy Hope Keck, Tristan and Shelby Pando, and nine great-grandchildren, Patrick, Michael, Christopher, Matthew, William, Nicholas, Amber, Tucker and Spencer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 16 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist, 5655 Stadium Pkwy., Viera, with interment at Florida Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to William Childs Hospice House, 381 Medplex Pkwy., Palm Bay, FL 32901. Thank you to the dedicated medical professionals at HRMC and Health First Hospice. Special thank you to Joey Morales, Jane Cleland, Dalcie Zacco, and Jakaria Mitchell for their exceptional care of 'Mr. Fred'.
