Robert 'Bob' Willyard

Merritt Island, FL

LCdr USN (Ret) Robert Henry 'Bob' Willyard, 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Cedar Creek Life Center, Merritt Island on Wednesday, August 20, 2014. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen in 1999, and is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Betty) Gaynor and stepdaughter, Gillian (Gill) Smith and their families. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a loyal and cherished friend to many.

Bob was born in Grand Rapids, MI on July 3, 1921. He enlisted in the Navy on June 4, 1940 and served for 30 years on submarines and support vessels before retiring July 1, 1970. He was a member of the Snug Harbor Base U.S. Submarine Veterans Chapter. His retirement years were divided between Argyll, Scotland and Merritt Island, FL.

Bob's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Cedar Creek Life Center and Vitas Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 5555 N. Tropical Trail, Merritt Island on Saturday, August 23 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Charitable Foundation of USSVI.
