Andrew (Andy) G. Roman, 87, died peacefully January 4, 2012 at Viera Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born to Greek immigrants on June 27, 1924, he was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. During WWII, he served as a combat soldier in Italy with the 88th Infantry Division - Blue Devils, receiving two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. After his honorable discharge, he returned to marry his childhood sweetheart Tresa and started his aerospace career working on the DC-6 and Harry Truman's Sacred Cow, with Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica.
Traveling extensively throughout the world during his time with McDonnell-Douglas, he worked on many programs, including the Thor, Delta, Nike Zeus (based on Kwajalein in the South Pacific), Apollo, and SkyLab, culminating his 35 year-career as the Director of Factory Operations at TICO on the Dragon & Tomahawk missiles. Throughout his career, he was honored to work with many wonderful colleagues and friends, who represented the McDonnell-Douglas family whom he truly revered.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Tresa; his son, George and daughter-in-law Elaine. He also leaves behind his sister, Kay Mikan; brother, Steve Roman (sister-in-law Electra); and sister-in-law, Angie Roman, all of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Andrew, Arte (and wife Krisa), Daniel (and wife Brenda) and Stephen Roman; and seven great-grandchildren, Athan, Christian, Luke, Lucian, Zachary, Mark and Anastasia.
A viewing will be held this Sunday, January 8, 2012 at Florida Memorial Gardens Chapel in Rockledge from 4pm to 7pm, with Church Services held at 11am on Monday, January 9, 2012 at St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church, 5965 North Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL.
Memorial donations may be made to the St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.
