David Hugh Burt, 67, of Hendersonville, NC passed away peacefully at Elizabeth House, Four Seasons, in Flat Rock, NC, Monday, October 8, 2012, following a courageous battle with cancer.
The son of the late Edith Munns and Hugh Higgins Burt, David was born March 12, 1945 in Barberton, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife and very best friend for 37 years, Bonnie; daughter, Sarah; and granddaughter, Annabelle, Fort Mill, SC. Other survivors are sisters, Carolyn Petrikin and her husband, Earl, Clearwater, FL, and Mary Berryman, Goldsboro, NC, as well as his nieces and nephews.
Dave, as he was often called, moved to Florida with his family while in Elementary School. He graduated from St. Petersburg High School and received a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida. David began his career as an engineering intern prior to receiving his degree with Radiation, Inc., in Palm Bay, FL, which was later acquired by Harris Corporation. He remained at Harris until his retirement in 2005 as a Program Manager in the Government Communications Division.
Following retirement, Bonnie and David moved from Indialantic, FL to Hendersonville, NC. Here, David, an avid golfer, became a member of the Cummings Cove Golf and Country Club where he was the 2009 Men's Club Champion.
David was known as a man who had a great sense of integrity. He will be affectionately remembered for his loyal Gator spirit. David also enjoyed cooking, traveling, and photography. Bonnie, Sarah, and Annabelle were the joys of his life, and they spent many treasured hours together. David will be greatly missed by all of his loving family and many friends.
