Gloria Maguire, 86, peacefully went to the Lord on March 7, 2013. Born in Troy, NY to Emil and Mary Baker on July 26, 1926, she was the youngest of four child-ren. Raised under the tutelage of two teacher aunts, Gloria excelled at academics. She skipped first grade, graduated salutatorian from Watervliet H.S. at age sixteen, and earned a BS Cum Laude from College of St. Rose.
After a brief secretarial time with the FBI, she married Michael F. Maguire on September 6, 1947, while he was still attending college. They immediately began raising a beautiful family of twelve children, to whom she devoted her full time love and attention. Gloria was a devoted Catholic, and her Faith and family were her greatest joy and comfort.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Michael; children, Christine Miesowicz (Fred) of Durham, NC, Elizabeth Dahn (Robert) of Mansfield Center, CT, James Maguire (Grace) of Dallas, TX, Joanne Maguire of Hermosa Beach, CA, William Maguire of Nashville, TN, Michael E. Maguire (Sue) of Indian Harbour Beach, FL, Thomas Maguire (Joan) of Brewster, NY, Mary Maguire (Jim) of Albuquerque, NM, John Maguire (Mary) of Milwaukee, WI, Patrick Maguire (Sara) of Indialantic, FL, and Anne Maguire of Mt Pleasant, SC; twenty grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her son, Kevin Maguire.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Holy Name Of Jesus Catholic Church. A reception will be held immediately after the service in the church Life Center.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gloria's memory to Genesis House, Health First Hospice, or Holy Name Jesus Educational Endowment Fund.
