Frederick John Zacharias (Zach), age 85, of Melbourne Beach, Florida, passed away on May 10, 2013 with family by his side.
Fred was born in Blue Island, Illinois in 1927 moved to Miami Beach as a teenager and graduated from Miami Edison High, where he was a track and field star. Fred later received a doctorate in law from the University of Miami and was president of his Sigma Nu Fraternity.
He was a successful stockbroker and real estate investor in South Florida, and married Jeannine Bergman Zacharias (deceased) originally from Cleveland, Ohio. Fred moved to Melbourne Beach in 1997 and later he and Bertram Schild donated 20 acres of land for the creation of public soccer fields at West Melbourne Community Park, known as The Bertram Schild and Frederick Zacharias Youth Soccer Complex. A distinguished athlete, he lived life to the fullest. He was loved by all who knew him.
Zach is survived by his sister, Mary Louise Smith; his four children, Karen, Mary, Frederick D. and James; and grandchildren, Douglas, Alexandria, Michael, Quinn, Zoey and Frederick C.
A viewing will be held at Beach Funeral Home, 1689 South Patrick Drive, Indian Harbour Beach, FL, on Friday, May 17th from 5pm to 7pm, with funeral services to be held at Beach Funeral Home on Saturday May 18th at 11am. Entombment will immediately follow services at Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Health First of Melbourne.
