Millicent (Millie) Wells Nielsen Riha, 90, of Cape Canaveral, passed away on Oct. 3, 2013 of congestive heart failure. Millie was born on Oct. 13, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY to Ludwig and Violet Wells. Before moving to Florida in 2007, Millie resided in Jamaica and Bethpage, NY, Flemington, NJ and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Millie ran a Hot Shot Delivery business in Baton Rouge with her late husband, Robert Riha, and also worked for JC Penney.
The union of Edward H. Nielsen Jr. and Millie Wells produced three children: son Edward III (Laurina) of NY had two sons, Edward Louis (Pam) and David (Sara); son Howard (Iris) of NY had two sons, Steven (Jean) and Ronnie (Susan), and daughter Millicent or Milly (Donald) Krause had two sons, Derek (Lexey) and Daren (Carla). Millie was the proud GG of 14 Great Grandchildren: Great-Grandchildren with surname Nielsen are Julianna, Ethan, Kevin Michael, Emily, Kate, James, Dianna, Kathryn, Kevin Bruce, Anabelle and Sophia. Great-Grandchildren with surname Krause are Ellis, Evan and Daren Jr. She is also survived locally by nephew Jayme Noe (Jenny) and children Ashton and Hannah of Satellite Beach.
Millie was active during her life. She loved sports and was a LSU fanatic. An avid golfer, she also ice skated, bowled, camped, cruised and would drive anywhere. Her day wasn't complete without a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper front-to-back.
Those who knew Millie were inspired by her love of life, resilience and no-worries lifestyle.
Special thanks to Cape Canaveral Hospital and Vitas Hospice of Merritt Island for providing such exceptional care and to her good friends at the Cocoa Beach Health Club for their constant support.
A service will be held at a future time yet to be determined and will be shared with friends and relatives.
